In the Sunday page episode above, from the 2003 furlough sequence, Sarge explains to Beetle’s father some of Otto’s unique attributes.
The story continues with the two daily strips below, as Sarge takes full advantage of Mrs. Bailey’s home cooking.
On Christmas Eve, Beetle’s Mom tries to get Sarge to have more patience and understanding for her baby boy.The Christmas Day strip features the full-cast, including Beetle’s sister Lois and the rest of the Flagston family.

In April 1954, Beetle went home again and visited his sister Lois and her husband Hi. They became the stars of their own strip six months later.

This baseball fantasy was almost certainly conceived by Jerry Dumas. Born in Detroit in 1930, Jerry was a lifelong Tigers fan and a devoted student of the game. He was hired by Mort Walker in 1956 and worked on Beetle Bailey for over sixty years. Jerry passed away on November 12, 2016 after a valiant battle with cancer.
