Beetle Bailey began in 1950 when the strip was bought and syndicated by King Features and is noted as the last strip personally approved by William Randolph Hearst. Beetle debuted in only 50 newspapers, at first as a college cut-up. With America’s entry into the Korean conflict, he accidentally enlisted in the Army, and the rest is comic strip history.
